Milwaukee Hurling Club (MHC) the all American player club is the largest hurling club in America and is growing from strength to strength each year.
This latest cool promo should peak new interest with folk in the Wisconsin region.

#179 US soldiers take hurling into 30 million homes

Next Monday, Jan 3rd, 2011 could prove a memorable day for the sport of hurling and the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) as the US National Guard soldiers of the Barley House Wolves hurling club from Concord, New Hampshire, appear on TV screens across America, around the world and via the Internet talking about their new-found passion for hurling.
The ‘Wolves story is truly unique in that they first discovered the ancient sport in 2005 while returning through Shannon Airport after a years deployment in Iraq. GaelicSportsCast reported the story last January on how the unit viewed hurling on an airport TV; liked what they saw and thought the game would be good for their unit. Since that time, while playing in the growing Junior C grade in the New Hampshire region, the ‘Wolves have become passionate about hurling and have competed at the US National Championships.
The Barley House Wolves recently peaked the interest of their colleagues in the military and were approached by the US TV channel, The Pentagon Channel (tPC) for an exclusive half hour special on the unit and their love for hurling.
The result of this is that next Monday will see the premier of the special ‘ Two Fields, One Team’ featured on the tPC’s programme, ‘RECON’. TV Time slot for US EST 07.30 am and will later be available on the Internet at www.pentagonchannel.mil featured in the videos for January, archived in RECON .
The Pentagon Channel is broadcast to US military units across the US, around the world, and can be also picked up by US cable subscribers with an estimated total audience of 30 million.
The opportunity for the sport of hurling to reach such a large audience on a scale never realised before is a very exciting prospect for the game and its governing body, the GAA.
GaelicSportsCast recently spoke to the Barley House Wolves Lieutenant Colonel, Ray Valas and First Sergeant, Lore Ford, about the upcoming TV premier, and also about their early December coaching session in Concord, NH with Cork 2010 hurling captain, Kieran Murphy.

#81 Halfway stage at MHC

It’s the halfway stage in the Milwaukee Hurling Club (MHC) League and one team, the Shamrock Club, is outshining the rest as they are 5-0 but can they remain that way for too long more? ‘Shamrock Club, though pressed in the latter stages of their game last Sunday with suffering Trinity (1-3), had secured their victory in the first half with an impressive goal scoring performance from the offense. In the Packy’s v Brocach game, it was something of a similar story with Packy’s building up a good half time lead with the midfield in particular proving their worth. However, Brocach (0-5) who are desperate for a win, did battle back to shoot 2-4 in the final quarter, and though they fell short, the late surge could stand to them in their next game this weekend with 1-3 The Irish Pub. Since coming into existence over a decade and a half ago, the Milwaukee Hurling Club’s rise to prominence is something of a sporting phenomenon as it has become the single biggest hurling club in America. Dave Olson, a founder member of the club, today speaks with GaelicSportsCast about how it all began, the club’s intriguing approach on and off the field and about his new role as Hurling Development Officer as well as his hopes for the future of hurling in America.

Once home to a proud hurling legacy , The Hurling Club in the city of Buenas Aires, last week hosted this year’s All Star Hurling tour. Descendants of Irish immigrants attending the exhibition game – many of whom would have had roots in Wexford, Longford and Westmeath – were thrilled by the fast pace and skill of the game, and, were particularly taken by the goal tending exploits of the respective 2009 and 2008 team’s All Star keepers. On the evening the touring party had departed for the green isle far away, GaelicSportsCast spoke with former club president and Irish descendant, Mr Alec Quinn about the tour and the history of hurling in Argentina.
