Newcomer from Waterford, David Ellis at center forward, shone for Galway notching up 1-10 and played a key part in his side’s victory. In Mens Senior Football, Kerry continue to show good early form when beating 2009 semi-finalist Tyrone, who are win-less after two games. A late penalty for Down overcame Cavan in an exciting match, while Leitrim proved far too strong for struggling Donegal (0-3). In Ladies Senior Football meanwhile, a last minute goal saw Cavan edge Kerry/Donegal. Here to tell us about the weekend’s action is NY GAA reporter, Eugene Kyne.

Back home, while Leitrim footballers failed to advance in Connacht, their New York cousins on Saturday had a battling win over rivals NY Cavan. In the game of the weekend, county footballer Dan Doona for Leitrim starred as did his new teammate summer recruit, Garry Cassidy whose two fine goals helped edge Cavan by a point. Elsewhere, Cork footballers had an easy win over Sligo while champions Down were pushed all the way by Donegal. Yesterday also saw the start of the New York Hurling Championship and what a start it was as it was a repeat of last year’s final. It was a marvelous game, with champions Offaly looking to have secured the victory but a late Tipperary goal won a hard fought draw. Here to tell our listeners about all the action is New York reporter, Eugene Kyne.

There were four Junior football games down for decision yesterday at Gaelic Park in the Bronx, with places up for grabs in the quarter finals of the John Joe McGovern Cup. The weather Gods made things difficult for the players as a persistant cold rain fell all day in the Big Apple. However that did not dampen the enthuasism of Cavan and Rockland who both recorded good victories while New York Celtics and St Raymonds had to work much harder in their wins. Describing the action is reporter Eugene Kyne who aslo told us about New York’s chances next Sunday when they take on visitors Galway in the opening round of the 2010 Connacht Senior Football Championship.
