Sunday last saw three epic semi finals where in football, Connemara Gaels saw off Boston Galway in Overtime, Aidan McAnespies in their clash with St Christopher’s stayed unbeaten but just about, while in the senior hurling semi final the in-form Boston Galway had too much for Boston Tipperary.
Boston Galway in the decider against Boston Wexford will be hoping to claim a championship title for the first time in a decade.

But plans could be disrupted as finals set for Saturday and Sunday could be rescheduled to Friday/Saturday as severe weather in the guise of Hurricane Irene may arrive in the Boston area over the weekend.
The finals have to be played before the North American Nationals in San Francisco the following weekend.
The date changes have yet to be confirmed.

Here to tell us all about the semi final action is Northeast GAA PRO, Rory O’Donnell.

In football, the Donegal versus Galway game was a thriller as it went to Overtime with an impressive Galway side downing the champs by [23] 1-20 to [19] 2-13 in the end.
This is a fantastic result for the Galway club who now find themslevves back in a senior semi final for the first time in decades.
In the other quarter final another nailbiter saw 2009 champions, St Christopher’s edge out Wolfe Tones by the minimum on a scoreline of [14]1-11 to [13]1-10.

In the last round of the senior hurling championship meanwhile, Galway had a great win over Fr Tom Burkes by [22] 1-19 to [20] 0-20. The win forced a playoff game on Wednesday evening with the same pair again and it was Galway once more who came out on top to book their place in the semis.
There was something of a shock in the other hurling game with championship leaders, Wexford toppled by Tipperary [24] 3-15 to [15] 2-9 . A good start by Tipp cemented victory here and as both finished level on points at the top of the table a draw was made to see who would go directly into the final. Ironically, for Tipp it was Galway who were the lucky ones.

In the Intermediate final, Shannon Blues claimed victory when beating Mayo by [21] 4-9 to [9] 1-6.

Listen here to Northeast GAA PRO, Rory O’Donnell fill us in on all the action.

In the race for places for this year’s Northeast Playoffs, three spots were filled last Sunday at Canton, MA with two of the first semi finalists decided in football while a hurling final place was also handed out.

In the mens senior football championship, Aidan McAnespies with a win over Wolfe Tones secured the outright top spot this year, and along with Connemara Gaels who beat 2010 champions, Donegal, sees both victors fill the first two semi final births.

In senior hurling meanwhile, a top of the table clash and more importantly a direct spot into the final was at stake when front-runner Boston Wexford squared off against Fr. Tom Burkes, and, it was the boys from Wexford who won the big prize to the final.

Here to tell us about those games, the rest of the fixtures and look ahead to the final round of football action on Sunday is Northeast GAA, PRO Rory O’Donnell.

With this year’s Boston Northeast GAA Championship coming down to the wire as just two weekends are left before the ‘Playoffs, it was no surprise that we had some very competitive games last weekend with Galway footballers showing they could be a danger yet to one and all.

Lying in the middle of the table and having had come close on a few occasions, Boston Galway had a great win on Sunday over 2009 champs St Christophers.
Only a point separated them in the end with the winning score coming from Sligo countyman, David Kelly, whose arrival should be a big boost for the men in maroon!

Meanwhile in other senior football action Connamara Gaels held off Mayo, Kerry defeated Armagh Notre Dame while Wolfe Tones beat Cork.

In hurling action we had another thriller, this time between third place Tipperary and bottom of the table Galway.
A last gasp goal saw Tipp salvage a draw against a very lively Galway.

To find out the details of the action and to learn what it all means as we near the end of the regular season, GaelicSportsCast spoke earlier today with Boston Northeast GAA PRO, Rory O’Donnell.

McAnespies had a convincing win over arch rivals Donegal over the weekend, while in other action St Christophers had a good win over struggling Shannon Blues.
Second place Connemara Gaels were held to a draw by Kerry, and Galway had an important win over Mayo.

In the final game of the three game series in the Ladies Football Championship, last year’s champions Tir na nOg proved too strong once more for Boston Shamrocks and as a result of taking three out of three, Tir na nOg are crowned 2011 champions.

In hurling meanwhile, Fr Tom’s beat Galway in a thriller on Saturday while on Sunday, Boston Wexford held on to beat Tipperary.

In Junior C Hurling action Portland beat Worcester to go top of the table.

The folks in Boston are getting plenty of value for money these days as there was more thrilling Gaelic sports action at Canton, MA over the weekend.

Two of the three senior football championship matches turned out to be crackers, while in hurling the final of the early season competition, the Sheehan Cup, produced an exciting come from behind win.
In that game, Fr Tom Burke’s looked to have done enough but Wexford came back with a late surge to take the cup by a single point.

In men’s football, unbeaten Wolfe Tones and Connemara Gaels played out a thrilling draw, while Shannon Blues edged out Mayo.
Meanwhile, champions from 2009, St Christopher’s got their season off to winning ways with an impressive performance over Armagh Notre Dame.

It was a wet start to the 2011 US Northeast Football Championship in Boston last weekend as only one early game was played with the rest of the fixtures postponed due to torrential rains.

The first senior football game of the day however went ahead – in very difficult conditions it has to be said – between Boston Kerry and Cork with the Kingdom snatching an unlikely victory.

The conditions didn’t make life easy for the players as a low-scoring first half ended with the Corkmen enjoying most of the play, but suffering shooting blues, only led by a slender point at half time.

Cork pushed into a three point lead in the second half and looked to have done enough nearing the finish, but Kerry not giving up, fired 1-2 in the closing minutes to grab a [12] 2-06 to [9] 1-06 victory.

Here to tell us about the game as well as the format for this year’s football championship is Northeast GAA PRO and Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.

One of the strongest senior football clubs in Boston, if not America, Aidan McAnespies showed again why they are a force as they crushed Boston Wolfe Tones last Sunday to take the first US Northeast competition of the season, the O’Brien Cup.

The ‘Tones had been putting in some impressive performances early on in the young season and looked like they could continue that form in last Sunday’s Cup decider. However, ‘McAnespies in a final are always hard to beat and so it turned out last week when they ran out comfortable seven point winners on a scoreline of [22] 0-22 to [15] 1-12.

Wolfe Tones got off to a flyer though when grabbing a goal in the opening minute but that was as good as it got as McAnespies proceeded to run riot hitting no less than 11 points on the trot without a response from the shell shocked ‘Tones. At the half, McAnespies led by almost double scores 0-13 to [7] 1-04.
Wolfe Tones did manage to get back in the game and slowly pegged back the lead to 3, however McAnespies kicked on once more and were never troubled again.

In hurling, the second round of the Sheehan Cup saw a reversal of fortunes for Tipperary. They had crashed heavily last time out to Wexford but against Galway on Sunday they were back on song and full value for their 11 point [21] 0-21 to [10] 1-07 victory.
After a close first half with Tipp leading by 4, they upped the anti in the second half and Galway just could not follow suit.

In the other Sheehan Cup second round, Wexford continued their good early form with an easy victory over [24] 2-18 to Fr Tom Burkes [11] 1-08 and they now sit top of the table.
A goal midway through the first half saw Wexford build a deserved five point lead at the break. Tom’s put in a better showing in the second half though as they reduced the deficit to a goal early on. But Wexford responded well with a succession of points before a second goal sealed the deal and ran out 13 point winners in the end.

NOTE: No podcast with report. Weekly Boston podcast from next week.

Galway, one of the oldest clubs in Boston, sprang somewhat of a surprise in the senior hurling championship semi final last weekend when comprehensively beating the more fancied Wexford at Canton. Galway will now take on Tipperary in the final on Sunday. Meanwhile in mens football, favourites Aidan McAnespies had a comfortable win over Armagh Notre Dame, who found themselves in the semi final after an objection, in their loss to Shannon Blues, awarded them the points and third place position. This meant that Donegal and St Christopher’s in joint fourth spot had to playoff and it was Donegal who came out on top in that one on Sunday. Donegal are due to play Wolfe Tones in the second semi final tonight Wednesday in Canton. To tell us about the games and the results of the Intermediate and Junior semi finals in both hurling and football, we spoke earlier to GAA reporter Rory O’Donnell from New Hampshire.

It’s playoff time in Boston as this weekend sees two semi finals in mens senior football and one semi final in hurling take center stage at Canton outside Boston. This means that last weekend was crunch time for teams trying desperately to stay in contention for a playoff birth. One such team in the football was last year’s Intermediate champions Armagh Notre Dame, who were pitted against ’09 runners up Shannon Blues and after a tight opening half, it was the ‘Blues who showed the necessary appetite when pulling away for an easy win. The Armagh loss meant that both Donegal and St Christopher’s got through, finishing joint 3rd behind, ‘Wolfe Tones and Aidan McAnespies. Table toppers Wolfe Tones who had already booked their place in next week’s semis, had a narrow win over Kerry while Mac’s had an impressive win over Galway. Last year’s champions, ‘Christopher’s also got a win on Saturday when beating Connemara Gaels. Meanwhile in the big hurling clash on Sunday, Fr Tom Burkes with a win over league leaders, Tipperary had a shot at a semi final birth but they were well beaten by Tipp. The previous day Wexford accounted for Cork and so meet Galway in next Sunday’s hurling semi final.

In ladies senior football on Sunday in Canton, MA, reigning champion’s Tir na nOg once more outshone rivals, Boston Shamrocks to take their second ladies Boston Northeast Championship title. The holders led the series by 2-1 going into the game and a win would see them retain their crown. Tir na nOg led by 8 at the break and though a never say die ‘Shamrocks brought it back to a 5 point deficit in the second half, Tir’ pushed on again with a late flourish for a comfortable and deserving win. Meanwhile in mens senior football, with just one more round to play, last year’s runners-up Shannon Blues saw their hopes of making the playoffs evaporate when surprised by Galway. In senior hurling, Fr Tom’s really needed a win for a chance to make the semis yet still maintain some measure of hope as they claimed a point with a draw against Boston Wexford. Here to tell us about the games is Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.

Last year’s senior football champions St Christophers suffered a shock defeat to Galway at Canton on Sunday. The loss leaves the champions really having to win their last three games of the regular season in order to qualify for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, ill discipline once more showed its ugly head as in Kerry’s one point win over Connemara Gaels, no less than 5 red cards were issued with three players from Kerry and two from the Gaels shown the line. In hurling Tipp had a comfortable win over Fr Tom’s whose misfortunes continue, while in ladies senior football Tir Na n’Og get revenge for their recent defeat to Shamrocks with a resounding win. To tell us about the details of the games is Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.

St Christophers who beat Shannon Blues last year to take the championship title, proved best yet again with a come from behind win. In another thriller Aidan McAnespies and Donegal, as they have done so many times in the past, served up another great match with the inform Macs this time having to give way to their great rivals, Donegal. In senior hurling meanwhile Galway had six points to spare over struggling Fr Tom Burkes. Here to describe the action is Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.

Last year’s Northeast GAA football champions, St Christophers, after a slow start to 2010, are back on track after a good win last weekend over Boston football powerhouse, Donegal. It was fitting that no less than four American players contributed to the victory for ‘Christophers on this Fourth of July weekend at Canton, MA. Also, Aidan McAnespies continue to impress with a comfortable win over Kerry, while 2009 runners-up Shannon Blues, just managed to hold on in their clash with Connemara Gaels. Meanwhile in the Hurling Championship, a strong second half showing by Galway secured the win over an improving Cork outfit. Here to tell us about the games is Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.

With their win last Saturday over Shannon Blues, Aidan McAnespies have three wins from three games and as a result go top of the Senior Football Championship Table in Boston. On Sunday in Canton, ’09 champions St Christopher’s drew with 14 man ’Tones who salvaged a point with a last gasp late score. In other games, Armagh ND proved too good for Cork, while Galway got some badly needed points in their thrilling game with Mayo, who also had a player sent off. In Senior Hurling there was more fireworks as Galway, in their clash with Tipp, saw one of their players see red and the extra man for the blue and gold helped Tipperary edge out a point victory. Meanwhile. Wexford hurlers welcomed back Corkman Stephen White to the fold and he helped his side to a comfortable wn over Fr. Tom’s. Close games and fiery tempers and here to tell us about it all is Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.

Well it seems the Gods are doing their best to upset the followers of Gaelic sports as once again Boston had to cancel fixtures due to poor weather last Sunday at Canton, MA. However some early games managed to beat the thunderstorms with a Junior Football game as well as a Ladies Senior Football clash getting completed. In the ladies we saw the return of 2009 Champions Tir Na N’og up against that great traditional club, Shamrocks. Tir na N’og proved too strong with two impressive newcomers in the center of the park leading the way to victory. Here to tell us about that game, the junior fixture and how the Senior Football Championship Table looks at present is Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.

The start of the Northeast Division Championships on Memorial Day weekend is always a much anticipated event in GAA circles in the city of Boston. There was plenty of action to whet the appetite for Gaelic football fans on Sunday last as there was five senior games down for decision. Aidan MacAnespies got off to a nervy start with their o-6 to 0-5 win over Mayo, a game the westerners could have won. Last year’s finalists Shannon Blues, though edging Kerry by just two points, looked bright and will be a force to contend with again this year. Elsewhere, Donegal had an impressive win over Armagh Notre Dame, Wolfe Tones were too good for Cork while Connemara Gaels had a narrow one point win over Galway. To tell us all about the action is Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.

The Boston Northeast GAA season kicks into full swing this week as the 2010 Championship gets underway this weekend in Canton, Massachusetts. In the Mens Senior Football Championship all eyes will be on last year’s and first time champions St Christophers to see if they can replicate their brilliant ’09 form. In the Hurling Championship, kingpins Tipperary will be looking to once again be in the shake-up come playoff time in late August. Then in Ladies Football, it will be very interesting to see if Tir na N’og can repeat last year’s great triumph when they took their very first Northeast title. Here to tell GaelicSportsCast about each teams chances ahead of the ‘Championship throw-in is long time Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell, who, will be giving us weekly reports throughout the summer on all the action from Canton.
