Harps continued their good form in the 2013 Queensland Men’s Gaelic Football League last week in with a four point victory over Souths to remain unbeaten and top of the table in Brisbane.
Played under lights at Willawong last Tuesday night, this game was very close throughout. Harps took an early lead with points from Steve McHugh and Paddy Tiernan on the back of good work from Brian Reid and Oisin Lynch in defense. A goal soon followed after a South’s defender deflected a ball past goalkeeper John O’ Regan. However Souths didn’t panic, a point from a long range free by Shane McKenna got them on the scoreboard and was followed by a great goal from wing forward Joe Crowley. The major brought Souths right back into the game and they went in at half time trailing by 3 points on a scorleine of 10 [1-7 ]to 7 [1-4].
Harps started the second half brightly with points from Fergal Johnson and Michael Kelly and looked to be in control. But again, Souths fought back reducing the lead once more with points from Paddy Devine and Joe Crowley. Harps were quick to respond though with scores from Oisin Lynch, Dom McFadden and Paddy Tiernan to restore their advantage and remained solid to the end for a well deserved 1-12 to 1-08 victory.
Best for Harps were Paddy Tiernan, Paddy O’Connor, Fergal Johnson and Steve McHugh. Best for Souths were Paddy Guiney, Joe Crowley, David McDonagh, Phil Ward and Paul O’Leary.
