Sunday in the Bronx spelled a great occiasion for rookie’s Manhatten Gaels, as in their first game ever as a club, they came away with a win in the opening round of the Junior B Football League yesterday at Gaelic Park.
Formed late last year, the Manhatten club were pitted in Round 1 of Junior B against Rockland and just about edged it in a competitive 15 [1-12] to 13 [3-4] victory. In other junior competition, at the Junior A level, NY Offaly had a five point win over Brooklyn Shamrocks 13 to 8 or [1-10] to [0-8].
A grade up from junior saw the first round of the Intermediate Knockout take place with NY Monaghan recording a comfortable 21 [3-12] to 7 [0-7] victory over NY Roscommon. The other game in that knockout saw a good eight point win for Long Island Gaels over NY Sligo on a scoreline of 20 [2-14] to 12 [1-9].
