St. Mikes top table, Brampton defeat Gaels, ladies champs Durham win

There was a full schedule of games in the Toronto GAA League last weekend with the ladies joining proceedings with the first round of their campaign. The bulk of the action was at Centennial Park in Toronto, however we did have mens and ladies football also take place in Ottawa where league leaders St. Mikes took on the hosts in both codes.

The last time Mikes men’s team traveled north they came out second best to Ottawa in the final of last month’s Montreal GAA Tournament, but it was another story this time around in the men’s third round of the league as Toronto put in an impressive performance to win emphatically by [29] 6-11 to Ottawa’s [9] 2-3. The victory sees St. Mikes solidify their postion at the top of the Toronto League Table on six points with a record of 3-0.
St. Mikes player Mike Murphy, had a busy and very profitable weekend as he scored 4-3 in the Ottawa game on Saturday, then traveled back to Toronto on Sunday to play intermediate, and remarkably, scored a further three goals.

In the corresponding senior mens football third round game at Centennial Park, last year’s Intermediate champions Brampton had a good win when ousting Toronto Gaels by four points on a scoreline of [21] 5-6 to [17] 2-11. This was Brampton’s first win of the season having previously lost to Mikes last week and narrowly to St. Vincents on Opening Day.  They share third spot on two points with Durham who have a game in-hand.

In the first round of the Ladies Football League, champions Durham continue where they left off last year with a [18] 3-9 to [11] 3-2 over Brampton. In the other ladies game St. Mikes made it another successful day for the club up north when proving too strong for Ottawa Gaels with a comprehensive victory by [27] 3-18 to [3] 1-0.

Meanwhile in the Mens Intermediate League, St. Mikes rounded off a good weekend when defeating Toronto Gaels by [19] 5-04 to [2] 0-02.
