Warsaw’s Big Day

It’s an historic moment for Poland’s sole Gaelic Football club, Cumann Warszawa, as the  organization host’s its very first GAA tournament today, Saturday April 14, 2012 in the city of Warsaw.

The competition marks the opening round of this year’s Central & East European Gaelic Football Championship with four men’s and women’s football teams taking to the field at Warsaw Sports Academy to battle it out for the Warsaw Cup.

Cumann Warszawa got its start in 2010 when a few Irish men and women living in Warsaw decided it was time to start off a GAA club in the city. Two years later the club boasts both men’s and women’s teams which are very much international in flavour as players hail from Israel, Norway, Sweden, Mauritius, and of course Poland.

Teams from four countries – Germany (Munich Colmcilles), Czech Republic (Prague Hibernians), Slovakia (Slovakia Shamrocks) Austria (Vienna Gaels) join the Polish club for an all day tournament with important first round points up for grabs in the Central & East European region.

NOTE: Watch out for forthcoming eBook on Hurling in the U.S. in  the next two weeks.
