Reigning champions St Mikes had to pull out all the stops in the final of this year’s Toronto senior football championship, as rivals St Vincents – who had gotten the better of them in the ’07 and ’09 deciders – nearly inflicted a trio of defeats last Sunday at Centennial Park.
When it looked like ‘Vincents had done enough and would win the day, a late flourish by ‘Mikes pushed the game to Over Time and from there the champions never looked back.
In the ladies championship decider, the crowd enjoyed another thrilling match that saw Durham edge out St Mikes by the minimum, while in the Intermediate mens final, Brampton had a comfortable victory over ‘Mikes.
Here to give us team line-outs, full results, and tell us all about the finals, as well as look ahead to Toronto’s first representation in decades at the North American finals this weekend in San Francisco, is Toronto GAA PRO, Ross McElhone.
