#226 Good start for football champs as Wexford hurlers into Sheehan final

The Barley House Wolves team who defeated Portland last Saturday in the first ever Northeast Junior Hurling Championship game at Concord, NH.

On account of almost all games being rained out the prior week, this weekend at Canton, Boston MA saw a host of senior football championship first round games and Sheehan Cup hurling action pack a busy fixtures calender.

The game of the weekend in senior football turned out to be the clash between Connamara Gaels and Shannon Blues’ with the ‘Gaels edging a thriller on Sunday.

Last year’s football champion’s Donegal, got their championship season off on the right foot with a comprehensive win over 2009 champs St Christophers.
In other first round ties, Aidan McAnespies, Wolfe Tones and Mayo, also recorded good wins over Galway, Armagh Notre Dame and Cork respectively.

Meanwhile in hurling, Wexford reached this year’s Sheehan Cup final with a three goal win over Galway while Fr Tom Burke’s put themselves in with a chance of getting to the final with a fine win over Tipperary.

History was also made last weekend as the first ever Northeast Junior C Hurling Championship (mostly American born players) began with New Hampshire’s Barley House Wolves seeing off Portland HC of Maine.

Here to fill us in on all the weekend action is Northeast GAA PRO and Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.
