Bad weather dampens start of Boston GAA championships

It was a wet start to the 2011 US Northeast Football Championship in Boston last weekend as only one early game was played with the rest of the fixtures postponed due to torrential rains.

The first senior football game of the day however went ahead – in very difficult conditions it has to be said – between Boston Kerry and Cork with the Kingdom snatching an unlikely victory.

The conditions didn’t make life easy for the players as a low-scoring first half ended with the Corkmen enjoying most of the play, but suffering shooting blues, only led by a slender point at half time.

Cork pushed into a three point lead in the second half and looked to have done enough nearing the finish, but Kerry not giving up, fired 1-2 in the closing minutes to grab a [12] 2-06 to [9] 1-06 victory.

Here to tell us about the game as well as the format for this year’s football championship is Northeast GAA PRO and Boston GAA reporter, Rory O’Donnell.
