In their first clash of this year’s Northern California College Hurling Championship, holders Cal Berkeley proved too strong for a more inexperienced Stanford at San Francisco GAA headquarters, Treasure Island last Saturday afternoon.
After a tight opening first half with only two points separating these two California college rivals, Cal were edging matters with interested spectators All Ireland Hurling winning manager, Tipperary’s Liam Sheedy and former Tipp defender Declan Fanning, taking time out to observe while on a visit to attend a function in the city.
In the second half, early goals from the slighty more experienced Cal outfit combined with the luxury of a stronger bench, proved too much for Stanford who faded in the end to a 27 (4-15] to 13[1-10] defeat.
Telling us about the game; we get perspectives from Cal club president and wing forward Zach Streng, and, captain Joshua Roberts, as well as from Stanford club co-founder and captain, Sam Svoboda.
