#165 Record numbers for Wellington ‘Sevens

There will be much excitement in the summer air tomorrow evening, Wed November 17 at Galloway Park in Wellington, NZ as this year’s Mixed Gaelic Football Sevens Round 1 has attracted the largest number of teams ever assembled for this three year old tournament.
The continuing arrival of Irish immigrants to Kiwi shores together with increased interest among native players, sees this year’s competition field four more teams than last with 14 in all participating. The tournament will see both men and ladies in each line-out in two groups of seven competing over six rounds every Wednesday evening with the top two qualifying in each group for the final on December 19.  GaelicSportsCast will be covering each round with a report every Thurs from Wellington GAA President and former Dr Crokes player, Donal Kavanagh. Early this morning, Donal gave us a rundown on this year’s tournament.
