Last Sunday, turned out to be a fantastic day for St Mary’s GFC as the celebrated their 50th year playing football in Wolverhampton by taking the 2010 Warwickshire Intermediate Championship at Pairc na hEireann, Birmingham. St Mary’s were up against Birmingham side, John Mitchells and the decider proved a tough experience for the locals as they found themsleves battling from a very early stage. Inside 10 mins of the game, St Mary’s had racked up two goals and two points (2-02) with a solitary one point score for Mitchell’s in reply. St Mary’s always controlled the centre of the park and never really looked in trouble and went on to record a comprehensive 5-12 (27) to 1-04 (7) victory.
Next Sunday sees the start of the British Club Championship which pits Lancashire champions, St Peters against London intermediate hereos, Moindearg at Pairc na hEireann. Meanwhile, Warwicksire football champions, Sean McDermotts will take on the Scottish and current All Britain Champions, Dunedin Connolly’s of Edinburgh in Round 1 of the British Club Championships at Manchester.
Next Sunday will also see action in Warwickshire with the JFK Cup Final between Sons of Erin from Northampton and Rugby Gaels, the Dominick Downey Cup Final in intermediate football sees St Brendans against St Finbars while in the same grade, St Chads play John Mitchells for the Mulligan Cup, and, Roger Casements take on Four Masters for the Fr Forde Cup.
