Dutch side Den Hague put themselves in pole position to retain their European football crown as they once again took the spoils in Round 2 of the Pan European Mens Senior Football Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Saturday. Having already won the first round in Munich last month, the Hague were many peoples favourites going into RD 2 at Vasas Sports Club stadium on the weekend. The final saw rivals Belgium A make it to the decider and in a close match, The Hague came out victorious by 0-06 to 0-04. In Rd 6 of the Ladies European Championship, Paris took the honours when beating surprise packet Vienna in the final on a scoreline of 8-11 (35) to 4-02 (14). Holders Belgium, who despite finishing in third spot and with one more round remaining, had gained enough points to seal the title and become the 2010 European Ladies Football Champions.
There was seven teams in action in the Mens Football Shield, and it turned out to be an all eastern affair with newcomer’s Warsaw taking the win over a gallant Prague side in a penalty shootout. This was a special moment for Warsaw as the club had only formed earlier this year. Here to tell us all about RD 2 at Budapest, is Assistant European GAA Secretary, Mike Cryan.
