#155 Mayo too much for New York

It was a very special weekend for Rockland GAA, NY as yesterday saw the final of this year’s FBD Football League take place to mark the official opening of their brand new Centre of Excellence facilities  located just north of Manhattan. The game saw New York up against title holders and visiting team from the west of Ireland, County Mayo. New York got off to a slow start as Mayo raced into an early 0-5 lead, however, a series of pointed frees got the home side back in contention and in their best period of the game, New York had it back to all square at the interval on 0-6 apiece. New York continued to impress in the early part of the second half when taking a one point lead, but that was as good as it got for the Big Apple as Mayo, showing greater tactical awareness and renewed spirit, soon regained the lead to take control and pushed on for an emphatic 0-19 to 0-7 victory. In the Ladies Inter County Football All Star game, a talented New York side proved a bridge too far for North America with a comfortable 3-18 (27) to 0-04 win, while in a five team, four city 7 aside Camogie tournament on Saturday in Gaelic Park, New York edged out rivals Boston by 2-03 (9) to 1-02 (5). Here to tell us about all the weekend’s action is NY GAA reporter, Eugene Kyne.
