#151 Leitrim kings of New York

In a thrilling senior football championship final at Gaelic Park, the Bronx, NY on Sunday, Leitrim bridged a 12 year gap to take this year’s title when overcoming Cork by a single point in a pulsating extra time encounter. From start to finish it was nailing biting stuff as the lead changed hands on several occasions. All square at the break on 1-04 (7), the sides throughout the second half kept the large Gaelic Park crowd guessing as to who would be crowned this year’s kings of New York. At the end of normal time they were still level on 1-08 each and so the game headed into extra time. The first period was nervy and scoreless but in the second, Leitrim pushed on and despite a late goal by the Rebels, the Lovely County held on for their first New York championship win since 1998.  Final score Leitrim 1-12 (15) Cork 2-08 (14) (OT). Here to give us the minute by minute account of the game is New York GAA reporter, Eugene Kyne.
