At the first day of the 2010 Asian Gaelic Games in Hong Kong earlier, Gulf teams are showing good form as they top the table in two of the three mens football cup competitions.
There are five teams taking part in the premier event, the Derek Brady Cup and after a series of four round robin 9 a-side seven minutes a half matches, Qatar and Dubai lead the way with 3 wins and one loss (3-1) with the hosts and cup holders Hong Kong A struggling somewhat at 2-2. These three go straight into Sunday’s semis while third and fourth place, Korea A and Singapore A have a playoff game to decide the last semi final birth.
The Mens Football B sees a splendid 12 team competition in progress with a four way tie at the top, though Arabian Celts and Dubai A, are in pole position on points difference with Orang Eire A (Malaysia) and Japan A in third and fourth. While in the Mens Football C a massive 17 teams took to the field early this morning with Dalian A (China), Thailand A, Jakarta and India leading with 9 points each from three wins with Dalian and Thailand ahead on points difference.
In the Ladies Cup, holders Singapore A and Korea A lead on 9 and 6 points respectively while Dubai A and hosts Hong Kong A lie in third and fourth. In Ladies Football B1, B2 and B3 levels, Vietnam Celts, Orang A and Hong Kong C lead their respective competition. Hurling meanwhile gets underway tomorrow.
