In one of the best football games all season at Gaelic Park in New York, fans were on the edge of their seats as a fantastic senior quarter final duel between Cavan and Tyrone spilled into OT. Cavan player James Moynagh was the hero for his side as he not only saved his team from defeat with a late equalising point in normal time but also stepped up to grab the winner at the death in OT. Meanwhile, in the other quarter final between Leitrim and Kerry, a close contest saw a second half Leitrim goal make all the difference and help them to a four point victory. Leitrim’s win sets up a repeat of last year’s semi final clash with champions Down, while Cavan will play Cork in the other semi final with both games fixed for Sept 26.
There was also plenty of action at the junior grade with two semi finals on Sunday’s card. In the first, Donegal’s late 1-3 blitz saw them home against Cavan while in the other semi final, a brilliant second half performance by Monaghan proved the difference against St Raymond’s. To fill us in on all the action is New York GAA reporter, Eugene Kyne.
