#126 Champ’s St Gabriels still in contention in London

Faced with the prospect of elimination last Saturday at Rusilip, last year's hurling champions St Gabriels kept their season alive with an important win over Fr Murphy's. (Photo courtesy of Fr Murphy's).

In the second last round of this year’s London GAA Hurling Championship at Ruislip last weekend, we saw the champions of last year St Gabriels fighting for dear life to stay in contention as a loss to Fr Murphy’s would see them out of the running. However, Gabriels showed that they are still a force to be reckoned with when beating their opponents by a comfortable margin with Corkman, Martin Finn starring, shooting 2-6 (12) of his side’s 3-15 (24) against Murphy’s 3-06 (15). Robert Emmetts and Kilburn Gaels with wins over Sean Treacys and Granuaille respectively finished top of the table and go straight into the semis, and this leaves Gabriels, Treacy’s and Fr Murphy’s having to battle it out for the other semis spots this weekend. Meanwhile in football, St Kiernans qualified for the semis when shooting 1-2 in injury time to tie and knock out Kerry Kingdon Gaels in a controversial finish. Neasden Gaels, 2009 championship runners-up, secured their semi final place with an easy win over Fulham as did Parnells with a similar victory over Tara. Last year’s champions Tir Chonaill Gaels also qualified when they squashed Brendans and amazingly managed to keep their opponents scoreless for the entire duration.
Here to tell us about the games last weekend is London GAA Chairman, Tommy Harrell.
