As the New York GAA Championships turned into the home stretch yesterday, the top contenders for this years senior football championship laid down markers with comfortable victories, while in hurling NY Tipperary taking inspiration from their cousins back home, strode into another championship final. In Tipp’s semi final clash with Galway, both teams lined out with some notable inter-county weekend talent on show but it was the blue and gold who drove on for an emphatic victory. In football meanwhile, Cork and Down had very easy wins over Donegal and Kerry respectively, and the winners in a repeat of last year’s final, will now play each other next weekend for a semi final birth. In ladies football, Kerry/Donegal had an 8 point win over Fermanagh in the Peter Connaughton Cup Final, while the championship final proper takes place next Sunday between rivals Na Fianna and Cavan. Here to tell us about the weekends action is NY GAA reporter, Eugene Kyne.
