Today Friday, July 23, 2010, marks a special day in the annals of Rockland GAA as the opening of the club’s brand new state-of-the-arts playing facilities takes place this evening.  Over the weekend there will be a host of Gaelic sports and fun activities, to celebrate what is in essence the arrival of a new GAA stadium in America here at Rockland in Orangeburg,  NY. Located 30 mins north of Manhattan, Rockland GAA’s 12 acre Phase 1 Development will be opened by Overseas GAA Chairman and Former President, Joe McDonagh. The site includes one full size regulation GAA pitch as well as two juvenile pitches complete with flood lighting and bleacher seating for 1000.  Rockland GAA’s opening heralds a new era not just for New York GAA but for US clubs in the region as Rockland will be available as a ‘Center of Excellence’ for those wishing to nurture and grow the games of hurling, Gaelic football and Camogie. Here to tell us all about the project and the weekend’s festivities is Rockland Field Development Committee Chairman, Paul Rowley.
