Last Saturday in Zurich turned out to be a fantastic day of celebration for Belgium GAA as they won both the hurling and camogie European championship titles for 2010. Belgium hurlers had left for the land of cow bells and chocolate with the hopes of retaining their ’09 crown by overcoming the challenge of Luxembourg, Paris and Zurich, and, they did just that when beating the hosts by five points in the final. The Belgium Ladies Camogie team also did their club proud when proving too strong for a gallant Zurich side. The hosts lost by a goal and fielded no less than 6 Swiss players on the seven a side team. Belgium also had success in the first European Poc Fada competition (longest puck) when Meath native Conor Alyward won the title and he will now go on to represent Europe at An Poc Fada on Annaverna Mountain in Louth, Saturday July 31. Here to tell us about the tournament is referee and ECB Secretary, Tony Bass and Zurich Hurling Club President, Conor Lyne.
Well done to Zurich and Conor and all who played/participated/supported.
Remember New York and London play/participate in the All Ireland System
Great to see the Irish bringing and extending the culture to Europe.
How about links back to clubs in Ireland.
How about some support from the Irish via a website !!
