The New York GAA Championships got underway last weekend in Gaelic Park in the Bronx with a very attractive senior men’s football clash scheduled for yesterday, Sunday June 6. The game was between last year’s football champions Down and this year’s league finalists Leitrim, and, a repeat of the recent Ned Devine Cup league semi-final game which Leitrim won. However, in this 15 a-side championship opener, it was Down’s turn to rule the roost as they ran out impressive 2-10 (16) to 0-8 winners. In Ladies Senior Football over the weekend, 2009 champions Na Fianna just about edged out rivals Fermanagh by a goal. Here to tell us all about the action is reporter Eugene Kyne.
