Galway almost shocked in Bronx

A late flourish from visitors Galway put paid to a gallant effort from hosts New York in this evenings opening round of the 2010 Connacht Football Championship.
Galway with an early Padraig Joyce goal got the perfect start but New York steadily fought their way back into the game hitting some excellent points with Kerryman, Dan Doona starring at full forward. Trailing by a point at the break, New York had their illustrious visitors rattled and things stayed tight throughout the second half. But in the final quarter, New York  suffered a huge blow when they had two men shown the line at a crucial time in the game. Galway led by one with 5 minutes left on the clock but with numbers and fitness to their advantage they finished the stronger with a late goal putting a false gloss on a very close shave.

Galway 2-13
New York 0-12
