With the heavy rain making cameras redundant, this photo captures the action from last year's Iberian Ladies Football Championship in Valencia. Madrid in red and Valencia in the orange shirts.
The first round of the European Ladies Football and Iberian Regional Championships got underway in Valencia last Saturday. It seems that mother nature was determined to have a say in things as the Icelandic volcano put the kybosh on Belgium ladies efforts to attend while all day downpours made life very difficault in sunny Spain. Yet the tournament turned out to be a great success with Madrid coming out winners when beating Barcelona in the final by 4-8 (20) to 1-2 (5). The Valencia girls fell to the impressive Madrid squad in the opening game and later narrowly lost to Barcelona in a one point thriller. Valencia GAA Secretary, Gavin Hackett was on hand to tell GaelicSportsCast about the days events, the Gaelic scene in Spain and about the importance of getting on the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) list of games.
